Starting Over: Why the Last Decade Was so Damn Rotten and Why the Next One Will Surely Be Better ~ {Book Giveaway} ~ 2 Winners

GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED
Starting Over: Why the Last Decade Was so Damn Rotten and Why the Next One Will Surely Be Better

Author: Andy Serwer
Publisher: Time Books
ISBN-13: 9781603201605

Bookended by 9/11 at the beginning and an epic financial meltdown at the end, the first decade of this century will surely go down as one of the most difficult in American history. We were plagued by a series of catastrophes and major missteps, from the convoluted
presidential election in 2000, to the invasion of Iraq, to the devastation of Katrina as well as all manner of financial shenanigans such as Enron, the tragedy of GM and Bernie Madoff.

It wasn’t just coincidence that this carnage all occurred over the past ten years though. Rather much of it was brought about by years of neglect and deferral of responsibility. In this book, Fortune Magazine Editor Andy Serwer explains how we fell into this national hole and more importantly, how we can and will pull ourselves out of it as we head into what could well be another most promising decade for America. Critical to this rebound is a learning of the lessons of the recent past such as accepting responsibility, punishing financial alchemy and excess, and refocusing on our core strengths like innovation and a political system which is a beacon to the rest of the world. Now is the time for Starting Over.

What I liked about Starting Over: Why the Last Decade Was so Damn Rotten and Why the Next One Will Surely Be Better

I really enjoyed the chapters devoted to the Timeline of Events! From 2000 through 2009, Serwer Chronicles that years important events. It's a fast and easy read!

The Author discusses why so much 'bad stuff' happened in this decade and why the next decade will be better. This is a great read for all you history buffs out there who are dying to get a glimpse as to what the future may hold.

I would like to win this book because I definitely would like to hear why the author believes things will get better. Right now, my husband is out of work (and has been for 4 months now) & we're living off his unemployment. He has had 3 layoffs (all due to financial issues in his field) in 5 years of marriage. I sure do hope things turn around!

2000-2009 was a tough decade for me. Alot of good things happened. I got married, had two kids, bought a house, both my Husband and I got great jobs etc. But then there was alot of bad too. I lost numerous family members including my father in law, I had a major car accident and had lots of medical problems because of it, I had 4 surgeries etc. I need to read something that can give me hope for this next decade!!!!

I would love to win this book because this decade has been so bad for us. My DH has been out of work for nearly half of it. It reminds me of the '80's when he also had a hard time with jobs. So, now I'm wondering if the teens will be like the '90's. We did well in that decade.

Thanks so much for the giveaway.
