Founded in 1963, Payson Fruit Growers was established as a Farmer owned business designed with the intent of processing cherries that were grown on local farms in the Payson Utah area. At the time, the cherries grown in the area were pitted and prepared to be used in pie filling.
When their first Dried Tart Cherries were produced in 1987, it became apparent that the cherries grown in Utah Valley had not only a rich red color but the natural sugar content was found to be exceptional for drying.
Since that time they have expanded their product line to include Organic Dried Tart Cherries, Un-sweetened Dried Tart Cherries, Chocolate Covered Dried Tart Cherries, and Yogurt Covered Dried Tart Cherries. For people who enjoy the taste of tart cherries in smoothies and ice-cream, they also offer Tart Cherry Juice Concentrate.
I was Blessed to receive two fabulous products from Payson Fruit Growers and I am reminded once again what it is I adore about Cherries!
We moved to Georgia quite a few years ago from New York. I had a beautiful yard and garden in New York and one of the things I miss is my Montmorency Cherry Tree, which produced gorgeous fruit!
These were not the super sweet dark cherries popular on grocery shelves come early summer, although I love those too! Tart cherries are lighter colored, a bit smaller and are fabu in recipes and cooking! Just thinking about that tree and those cherries makes my mouth water! Mmm…
My tree provided me with the most gorgeous, red sour cherries that were absolutely delicious!
I remember my mail carrier loved those cherries so much he would bring a container to my house and ask if he could fill it with those juicy, plump cherries. they were fabulous in pies, in jams and as a topping on ice cream! Payson Fruit Growers has captured those flavors in their cherry products, I’m happy to say.
Their cherry products are simple, delicious and taste like good old fashioned cherries, because they are!

mmmmmmm I love tart cherries. I live in Cherry capital of the world .. the NW but we grow the dark sweet here, the ones you see in store produce area. Tart cherrys are so good in a crisp green salad with some vinigrette. People shouldn’t be afraid of the word ‘tart’
