GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED
Founded in 2005, the Icelandic Milk & Skyr Corporation makes clean and simple, low sugar yogurt products under the brand name siggi’s. Their first product skyr is a strained yogurt, made from skim milk so it’s thick and creamy, high in protein and fat-fat.
They combine the ancient Icelandic tradition of skyr making with milk from local family farms in Chenango and Cortland Counties in Upstate New York State. Their farmers don’t use growth hormones in any of their products. All siggi’s products are natural and do not contain any artificial sweeteners; their yogurts are sweetened lightly and naturally with agave nectar.
My family and I love yogurt! One of My Little Guy’s favorite foods is yogurt, so when I heard about siggi’s I knew I had to try it. I’ve seen it at The Fresh Market but didn’t really give it a second glance until recently when the label caught my eye. I had never heard of skyr and couldn’t wait to give it a try. I’m a huge fan of greek-style yogurts, especially the non-fat varieties. They are higher in protein, although a bit lower in calcium than traditional yogurts and the texture is just so rich and creamy. They are almost like a dessert!
I was Blessed to receive a bunch of siggi’s coupons, tote and super cool mug (to eat my skyr, granola and fruit in) for review.
siggi’s yogurt is actually thicker than greek yogurt! It’s very creamy and because all the whey, the water that’s found in milk is strained out, siggi’s skyr is a concentrated yogurt. 3-4 times the milk is needed to make skyr than regular yogurt, so you get the idea of the decadent, hearty texture of this yogurt.
Fresh Market and Whole Foods Market carry siggi’s near my home. But I have to be honest, it is a bit hard to find. Click HERE to locate a retailer near you that sells siggi’s products. Hubby and the kids love the traditional siggi’s skyr flavors like vanilla, blueberry, peach and strawberry. I loved the plain because I can top my baked potatoes with it. It’s as good as better than fat- free sour cream. The taste is a bit tart but not overpowering and it’s rich and very fresh tasting.
If you love exotic flavors ya gotta try the grapefruit skyr, which is perfect on its own. I didn’t add a thing! No granola, no fruit, nothing. But, I happen to love citrus and when have you ever seen a grapefruit yogurt! I’m hooked! If you like to mix ‘stuff’ into your yogurt, then try the orange ginger skyr! This is ideal for parfaits because of its unique and utterly deletable flavor! Go on, layer on the fruit and granola. It’s not only a great breakfast; it’s a wonderful snack and dessert!
Next on my list to try are siggi’s probiotics! These drinkable yogurts have an especially high concentration of Lactobacillus Acidophilus. They are available in 4 packs and are in low sugar, contain real fruit, and contain no artificial flavorings, stabilizers or starches.
