Follow these tips from Nutritionist, mother and co-founder of the recently launched iPad app Smash Your Food, Marta De Wulf in order to healthfully enjoy your family’s Easter dinner:
Marta’s Healthy Easter Menu Tips
- Low-fat, roasted ham – saving 20 grams of fat for a 4oz serving
- Scalloped potatoes made with non-fat yogurt and low fat cheese to save 10 grams of fat per ½ cup
- Green beans – forgo the rich cream sauce to save 15 grams of fat, or substitute non-fat yogurt or non-fat milk to save over 10 grams
- Steamed carrots glazed with honey or light molasses – to save more than 5 grams of fat and more than 10 grams of sugar
- Low-fat, whole grain dinner rolls – to add fiber and save 3 grams of fat
- Sugar free or low-sugar fruit cobbler or pie – to add nutrients while saving more than 20 grams of sugar and more than 10 grams of fat than in cream pies
This version of the average meal many are serving this weekend has only 75% of the fat, sugar and calories than that of a typical Easter meal!
