Keep the power in your hand with the Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge
Back in the day when Hubby and I first got married he had a sound system that he loved. The guy commandeered our tiny living room and placed speakers that were larger than my chairs in both corners of the room. He had more speakers strategically placed around the tiny room so that when you played music the room literally vibrated!
The sound was awesome but those speakers were an eyesore. They left room for little else and after we had our first daughter and we moved into our first home he decided to ‘downgrade’ to smaller speakers! Smaller to him, but still ginormous. Thank goodness for technology and for my incredible patience (cough cough!) When I heard about the Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge I was overjoyed! It’s the most versatile compact speaker in the world and it works with my iPod!
I was Blessed to receive a Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge for review courtesy my friends at Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Soundfreaq.

Let me start off by saying I am not the least bit tech savvy. Hubby has every audio and visual device set so that I am unable to figure out how to use them. The VCR, TV and even the radio have so many gadgets, gizmos and widgets attached to them that I’ve given up using them. So I was a little bit nervous about setting up the Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge. I shouldn’t have been. It was a piece of cake! I opened the box, plugged it in and voila. It worked. I docked my iPhone and I was listening to music.
I wanted to be super sure I was doing everything right so I downloaded the User Manual from the Soundfreaq website, but it really wasn’t necessary. The Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge is very easy to use from four different sources:
- Bluetooth Wireless – This scared the daylights out of me and shouldn’t have. It was so easy to set up. Just download the free “SoundFreaq Remote “App onto your iPhone/iPad and follow the easy directions to build a connection between your device and the Sound Step. Once you’ve done that you can stream audio directly to the Soundfreaq SFQ-02 Sound Step without missing a beat; letting you keep your device exactly where you need it, on the desk, in your hand and by your side! This is my favorite feature!
- Apple Dock – I love music and I’m always listening to the constantly growing list of songs on my iPhone. That means the battery on my phone goes dead pretty fast. When my iPhone is docked on the Sound Step Recharge it stays charged. Before receiving the Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge I was satisfied with the sound quality from the iPhone. But when I docked it to the Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge I realized what I was missing. The richness of sound coming from that small speaker is amazing. That’s the U-Cubed Sound Effect (UQ3) technology which creates a sound experience similar to a large sound system with huge, expensive speakers that are situated throughout the room.
- Aux Input – Standard 3.5mm line-in jack accepts input from any device that has a standard headphone jack so you can play Sound Step with virtually any audio source you want.
- FM Radio – Hubby and I don’t listen to the radio very much but if you do then you’ll enjoy the ability to listen to your local stations with the built-in FM tuner which is controlled through the complementary iOS app.
Here’s a video demonstration of just how easy the Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge is to use.
The Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge has a few features worthy of mentioning! I always keep my iPhone in a case. I’m able to dock my iPhone case and all with no trouble. I certainly wouldn’t want to have to remove the case each time I wanted to use my Sound Step Recharge. If your case is thick like mine, you may need to remove the rubber cover protecting the iPod/iPad connector.
The Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge features a USB power jack to charge any compatible USB device; including an iPhone, iPod and most Bluetooth headsets, mobile phones and smartphones. There’s also a place to store the remote control underneath the speaker, so it doesn’t disappear. And best of all, the Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge is completely portable! It has a built in Lithium ion battery so it can be taken anywhere and played without having to be plugged in! I’m looking forward to using the Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge during the holidays. Oh the joys of listening to holiday music in every room of the house! The Soundfreaq Sound Step Recharge is priced at $149.99 and makes a great gift for holidays, birthdays or any occasion!

This is a great review. I’m in the market…looking around, and not tech savvy either. This review helps!
And ugh, my husband has those big guy speakers in the basement…he can’t bear to part w/them (he’s got a man cave down there, so I just ignore them until it’s time to dust).
