I’ve always supported “pink for a cause products.” If the products are beautiful, functional and they give back what’s not to love? Not everyone shares my enthusiasm for those “pink for a purpose” consumer goods however, including some companies.
When Tomboy Tools, manufacturer of pink tools for women, was founded 10 years ago, its owners had a strong opinion on the color pink and marketing to women. Janet Rickstrew and Mary Tatum were convinced they would not be taken seriously selling pink products and had a “No Pink Tools” motto, offering tools in various colors, such as blue. In 2005, as a fundraising item for breast cancer, Tomboy Tools developed the 13 oz. Pink for a Purpose Hammer, which instantly became a huge success. Even so, Janet and Mary were not easily convinced that pink was an appropriate representation of Tomboy, and embarked on an extensive consumer research study.
At the conclusion of their study, Janet and Mary agreed that, contrary to their original beliefs; the color pink was the perfect representation of their products, tools with a purpose. Thus, Tomboy Tools became a line of all pink tools with a percentage of sales donated to the “Pink for a Purpose” fund. This fund supports causes important to women including breast cancer, domestic violence and animal welfare to name a few.

It sure would have been nice to have the Tomboy Tools Auto Kit with Wide Mouth Bag in the trunk of my car two weeks ago when I decided to play hookey, abandon my blog and spend the day with Sweet Pea. We had a blast running around, shooting the breeze and finally stopping for a bite to eat! After finishing lunch we came out of the restaurant to find a huge nail in my flatter than a pancake back tire! Being the resourceful little suckers that we are, we stopped, prayed, looked up and to our delight saw two police officers that lent us a very helpful hand (after lecturing us about not having the proper equipment needed to change the tire).
You better believe I’m prepared for the next ‘car calamity’ now! In addition to a big, fat lesson on how to change a tire, jump start my car and other sordid issues that could arise, I now carry the Tomboy Tools Auto Kit with Wide Mouth Bag in my trunk! Now, the thing I like about this kit is it contains a lot of ‘stuff’ but the bag itself doesn’t take up a lot of room in my trunk and there is room in the bag if I want to add a few more items of my own.

Although this may seem like a small detail, the jumper cables come in a very strong plastic bag with re-enforced handles, which means the inside of your bag will stay clean after you use the cables!
