Disclosure: STI – The Drive Experience Company provided me with a 2014 Kia Sorento SX FWD for this Car Review. I was not financially compensated and all opinions are my own.
When our girls were little Hubby and I owned a 4-door car hatchback and a mini van. It was a necessity back then. I lugged a stroller, diaper bag, port-crib and highchair in addition to my kids, niece and nephews. Those were the days! When it was time to replace my car back in 2001, I purchased a small two-door, fuel-efficient car. My girls were in high school and about to leave for college. There was no point in owning a large gas-guzzler anymore.
Fall In Love With The Family Friendly 2014 Kia Sorento SX FWD
The tides have turned and I’m a grandmother toting around a little one again. Granted he’s 4 but he’s got a lot of stuff and strapping him into the backseat of a 2001 Toyota Celica is backbreaking. I was very happy to a review the 2014 Kia Sorento SX FWD! It was easy to get My Little Guy’s car seat into the 2nd row seat and even easier to strap him in. He loved the visibility sitting up high gave him. When he fell asleep I pulled up the shades on both 2nd row windows shades to block out the searing Georgia sun allowing him to nap in comfort.
When my arms were loaded with bags, baby and purse I just pushed a button on the key fob to raise the Power Liftgate and load my cargo. No struggling with keys or hatch. The family friendly 2014 Kia Sorento SX FWD is a stylish cross-over utility vehicle (CUV) featuring all the creature comforts I could ever ask for!
Awards & Safety Features on the 2014 Kia Sorento SX FWD
Safety is always the first thing I look at when I’m researching a vehicle. It may have the latest technology and be sleek and gorgeous but if it’s not safe it’s not for me. Not only did the 2014 Kia Sorento FWD receive an overall 5-star crash safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also named the Kia Sorento a Top Safety Pick for 2013 and with good reason. This car comes equipped with three sets of airbags, including side curtain airbags in the 1st and 2nd rows. Based on its roomy interior cabin, refined design, premium features and compact size Kelley Blue Book named the 2014 Kia Sorento one of the best 10 SUV’S under $25,000.
On The Road With The 2014 Kia Sorento SX FWD
It took me about five minutes to get familiar with the Sorento. I got behind the wheel and was taken back to my mini van days. Boy was I mistaken. The Kia Sorento is big and this particular review vehicle can seat up to seven passengers but it drives like a car.
I laughed at myself when I turned the first corner in my subdivision. Making that first wide awkward turn I realized that the Sorento was going to be an agile car. I took the Sorento down to the cul-de-sac to test her out on some u-turns and three-point turns. Just what I thought! The 2014 Kia Sorento SX FWD handled smoothly. The Sorento is quite the peppy, nimble vehicle and I’m happy to report I averaged 19.3 MPG driving around town. *EPA MPG 18 city / 25 highway.
The 2014 Kia Sorento SX FWD comes with a 3.3 Liter Engine, Electronically Controlled 6-Speed Automatic Overdrive transmission with Sportmatic™ and 4-Wheel Disc Anti-Lock Brakes.
Inside The 2014 Kia Sorento SX FWD
Hubby has a blog of his own and posts a review of each review car that comes our way on Straight Talk from The Hematech. He wants ample time behind the wheel and I get to relax and experience each car as a passenger. Enjoying all the amenities the 2014 Kia Sorento SX FWD has to offer was one of this weeks highlight! I’ve never reviewed a car with a 115-volt power inverter. Yep, you can charge your laptop in the 2014 Kia Sorento SX!
As I said earlier we received a seven passenger vehicle with 40/20/40 Split-Folding 2nd Row Seats and 50/50 Split-Folding 3rd Row Seats. The 2nd row is pretty spacious with enough legroom for the average person. The 3rd row is cramped but is perfect for small kids. Keep in mind that when the 3rd row seats are in use trunk space is pretty much non-existent. We didn’t use the 3rd row and had more than ample cargo space.
Being a nature girl I always have my sunroof open. The Panoramic Sunroof on the Kia Sorento sings to my heart! It runs the length of the car and when open bathes the car with light and fresh air! The sunroof and heated front seats are two of my favorite features of the Sorento.
My review (I could go on and on) would not be complete without a mention of the AM/FM/CD/MP3/SiriusXM Audio System, and Navigation. I was able to BLUETOOTH all my Christmas songs from my iPhone so My Little Guy could hear The Chipmunks over and over again. Touch screen navigation was very easy to use and included real-time road conditions in our area. The huge 8″ Rear Camera Display allows clear visibility so you can view everything behind the car when backing up. This is a must have on any car I own in the future! And of course all the audio and phone buttons are conveniently located right on the steering wheel.
